Researchers studied internet marketing of robotic surgery to remove a cancerous prostate. They found that many sites claimed benefits that were not supported by evidence. In addition, the majority of sites on the procedure were from hospitals and physicians, which may seem more objective to consumers, according to the study.
The authors suggested the government and medical societies promote the use of balanced educational material when marketing a medical procedure or technology.
