New Cancer Hospital To Open in Connecticut

Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, Conn., will begin treating patients next week, according to a report by the Hartford Courant.

The $467 million, 14-story hospital is the result of Yale-New Haven Hospital’s efforts to expand its cancer care program. The hospital will feature 168 beds, 12 operation rooms and a women’s cancer center.

The hospital worked with cancer patients and their families to design the center and will featured integrated, multidisciplinary care. Patients will be treated by a team of providers, including oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, a nurse and a social worker, according to the report.

The hospital hopes to recruit approximately 60 additional physicians to the facility.
