As a result of the designation, patients of the cancer center will have access to clinical trials available only to NCI-designated centers. Also, the University of Kansas Cancer Center can now apply for federal research grants only available to NCI-designated facilities.
Over the last decade, hundreds of private donors have given more than $100 million to the university’s Endowment Association to support the effort to attain NCI designation, according to the release.
