New Cancer Center in California Named After Pro Football Hall of Famer

A new cancer center in Truckee, Calif., is being named after pro football Hall of Famer Gene Upshaw, according to a news release.

The Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center formally opened its doors Tuesday. Mr. Upshaw was the longtime head of the NFL Players Association and a part-time Truckee resident for 35 years. He died of pancreatic cancer in August 2008, only three days after being diagnosed while at his vacation home in Lake Tahoe.
