Led by the Cambridge, Mass.-based Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, the MBCproject aims to accelerate research discoveries related to metastatic breast cancer. The goal of the project is to collect, standardize and release clinical, genomic, molecular and patient-reported data from metastatic breast cancer patients.

The social media-driven project has enrolled 4,000-plus women and men with metastatic breast cancer via the project’s website since October. Roughly 1,400 of enrolled patients have submitted saliva kits. The first dataset includes data related to whole exome sequencing, medical record and patient-reported data, among other information, for each participant.

MBCproject collaborators plan to continue to enroll participants and to release additional data to the collection every six months.
