The expansion would add 217,200 square feet to the $182 million proton beam therapy building currently under construction on the Phoenix campus.
The expansion will house three outpatient operating rooms and expanded space for transplants. To consolidate cancer services, the hematology and oncology department, bone marrow transplant program and research program at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz., will move to the new Phoenix building. Thirty-two chemotherapy infusion stations will also move from the Scottsdale campus to the Phoenix cancer center, and will be supplemented by 18 new infusion stations.
In addition, Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix will relocate some clinical units to the new building to create 12 inpatient hospital beds. The hospital plans to move other units in the future to create space for 24 additional hospital beds, according to the report.
The proton beam therapy and expansion project is expected to be completed in three years.
