Dr. Cross, who specialized in prostate, breast and brain cancers, set out on his boat Aug. 10 but didn’t return later that day. Family members expressed concern, launching a 100-hour Coast Guard search.
Dr. Cross’ boat was discovered the next day adrift 16 miles south of Sanibel Island in Florida with no sign of the 49-year-old physician. The Coast Guard suspended its search after covering approximately 13,100 square miles of ocean.
