HCA, Galen College of Nursing to open new campus in Colorado

Denver-based HealthOne — part of HCA Healthcare — and Galen College of Nursing are planning to open a new campus in Aurora, Colo.

The new nursing campus will offer a three-year BSN program, as well as a two-year associate degree in nursing program, according to an April 2 news release. Enrollment is now open, with the inaugural term at the campus to commence July 8. The campus features advanced simulation laboratories and classrooms designed to encourage practice-based learning, the release said.

"We want to ensure that we have the individuals ready in our facilities to take care of [patients]," Jennifer Broekema, MSN, BSN, vice president of clinical education at HealthOne told FOX affiliate KDVR. "We are growing so quickly that we just know that the need is outpacing the number of nurses who are available to work in our facilities."

HealthOne includes nine hospitals across the Denver and Rocky Mountain region. It also operates a network of freestanding ERs, urgent care and surgery centers. The health system is part of HCA Healthcare's Continental Division, which also includes Wesley Healthcare in Wichita, Kan.

Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare purchased Galen College of Nursing in 2020. Last spring, the health system invested more than $200 million to open new campuses through the college. Galen has 20 campuses across 10 states.
