The patient, Teguila Sue Abel, summoned the physician into her room and asked that the door be closed. Ms. Abel grabbed the physician’s neck and slashed her with an edged plastic tab she broke off a pediatric code cart.
The physician called for help, and a nurse and hospital security rushed to aid her.
York Dispatch News did not disclose why Ms. Abel was in the hospital.
Ms. Abel has been charged with aggravated assault and is free on a $25,000 bail, according to court records. Her preliminary hearing before a district judge is scheduled for Sept. 28.
