Police officer shoots man in Georgia hospital

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is uncovering details behind a shooting at Navicent Health Baldwin in Milledgeville, Ga., Tuesday, where a police officer shot a man inside the hospital, according to The Telegraph.

The Milledgeville Police Department said in a news release that a wounded man had been taken to Navicent Health Baldwin and became combative in the emergency room, according to a Miami Herald report. 

During a fight between the man and Navicent Health police officers, the man allegedly "went for" an officer before another hospital police officer shot him, a source familiar with the investigation told The Telegraph. No officers were injured in the shooting, according to a WXGA report.

The shooting took place just before 2 p.m. Tuesday. At around 2:30 p.m., the man who was shot arrived for treatment at Navicent Health Medical Center's emergency room in Macon, Ga. GBI investigators were en route to the hospital shortly after 2 p.m. The Milledgeville Police Department is assisting with the investigation, according to WGXA.

The name of the officer and victim have not been released. The man was listed in critical but stable condition.
