Western Michigan University to Name Medical School After Homer Stryker

Kalamazoo-based Western Michigan University Medical School will be named after Homer Stryker, MD, the founder of Stryker Corp., a medical technology company, according to a Lansing State Journal report.

The school is being named in Dr. Stryker's honor because his granddaughter, Ronda Stryker, and her husband made a founding gift of $100 million three years ago to jumpstart the medical school's development, according to the report.

Dr. Stryker was an orthopedic surgeon in Kalamazoo, which is also the headquarters of the company.

The Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine will open this fall.
