Top 6 priorities for hospital executives

According to an American Hospital Association survey of 1,100 healthcare executives, the top six priorities of a hospital's executive team include:

  1. Improve cost containment and efficiency
  2. Increase clinical integration and improve care coordination
  3. Improve care quality and patient safety
  4. Integrate IT systems
  5. Foster innovation
  6. Increase patient engagement

These priorities will not come easily, however. "Management in hospital C-suites must be strategic as the challenges in the healthcare landscape continue to grow," wrote IntelliCentrics' Greg Goyne in a recent blog post. "Increased government regulation, lower reimbursements and an aging population are just three of the obstacles healthcare administrators face in the coming decades."
