Pennsylvania's Lower Bucks Hospital Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Lower Bucks Hospital, a 183-bed facility in Bristol Township, Pa., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, after losing $14 million in the last three years, according to a report by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

A hospital spokesman said Lower Bucks' charity care costs have increased from $2 million in 2002 to $12 million this year.

The hospital missed a $915,000 bond payment Dec. 15, 2009, and in January replaced its CEO Austin Cleveland with Albert Mezzaroba, an attorney who has worked as a consultant for the hospital.
