A department official told Politico the enrollment period would begin on Nov. 15, 2014 and end on Jan. 15, 2015, in order to give health insurers more time to assess their 2014 experiences and set rates accordingly. The enrollment period was originally scheduled to run from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, according to the report.
The decision will also benefit consumers, who will have more time to learn about their coverage options before enrolling, according to the HHS official. The change won’t affect PPACA health insurance exchange coverage in 2014, according to the report.
