Healthcare Sector Reports 20,000 Additional Jobs in April

The healthcare industry saw the addition of 20,100 jobs in April 2010, according to a news release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.


Hospitals added 6,100 jobs in April, with total seasonally adjusted employment at 4.712 million up from 4.706 million in March 2010.

Ambulatory healthcare services, which include physicians' offices and ASCs, added 9,400 jobs in April, with total seasonally adjusted employment at 5.894 million up from 5.885 million in March. Physician's offices, however, lost 300 jobs in April.

Overall, nonfarm payroll employment rose by 290,000 jobs in April.
