GAO Appoints 6 Health Leaders to MedPAC

The U.S. Government Accountability Office announced the appointment of Jon B. Christianson, PhD, as vice chair of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission as well as three new member and reappointed two existing members to the commission.

Dr. Christianson is a professor in the division of health policy and management at the Minneapolis-based University of Minnesota's School of Public Health.

The GAO also announced the appointment of three new members to the commission:

•    Kathy Buto, MPA, an expert in U.S. and international health policy and former vice president of global health policy at Johnson & Johnson.
•    Francis Crosson, MD, group vice president at American Medical Association in Chicago.
•    Warner Thomas, MBA, president and CEO of the Ochsner Health System in New Orleans.

The GAO reappointed two of its existing members — Willis D. Gradison, Jr., MBA, former scholar-in-residence in the health sector management program at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business; and William J. Hall, MD, director of the Center for Healthy Aging at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) School of Medicine.
