Here are four of the medical innovations on display at the Premier conference. The following were highlighted by clinicians based on their potential ability to address unmet medical needs.
1. Boston Scientific introduced the world’s first intravenous implantable cardiac defibrillator. The ICD does not touch the heart, thereby reducing risk of infections, and is implanted under the arm, making it less visible.
2. Medtronic unveiled the industry’s smallest heart monitor that can diagnose abnormal heart rhythms and automatically send biometric data to physicians using a cellular signal.
3. Hologic introduced a 3-D mammography device that cuts the frequency of false positive diagnoses.
4. Sizewise’s crib mattress is designed to reduce pressure ulcers by pushing air out of the mattress to keep it cool and dry.
