Oncologist Howard Edington, MD, will leave UPMC to chair West Penn’s department of surgery beginning in August. He will also serve as director of West Penn’s Cutaneous Oncology Center.

Dr. Edington has been with UPMC for 20 years and is currently the system’s chief of surgery and surgical director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Melanoma Center.

Blair Anderson Jobe, MD, will also move his clinical practice and research from UPMC to West Penn, where he will serve as director of the Institute for the Treatment of Esophaegeal and Thoracic Disease. He will also chair the department of surgery at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Bloomfield, Pa., effective in July.

Dr. Jobe has served as director of esophageal research, esophageal diagnostics and therapeutic endoscopy at the UPMC Heart, Lung and Esophageal Surgery Institute since 2008.

Pittsburgh-based insurer Highmark is planning to acquire West Penn for $475 million. That transaction is still under regulatory review.
