Mr. Roach said in the report that patients would flock to a less-expensive government-run program, which may lead private insurers to go out of business. While noting that he is not an “advocate for the insurance industry,” he fears that such a program could lead to socialized medicine and limit patient choice in their healthcare services.
Mr. Roach also noted that a government-run program may not fully reimburse hospitals for the cost of their services, according to the report.
Mr. Roach agrees that healthcare in the U.S. should be more affordable and said in the report that “Congress has good intentions” when it comes to healthcare reform.
