Wayne Parezo, who worked in environmental services at the hospital, allegedly placed a foreign substance into a woman’s beverage on July 25. The woman was taken to the emergency room and was released, according to Valley News.

Mr. Parezo is no longer employed at the hospital.

“Gifford is fully committed to maintaining a safe work environment for our employees, and we are following appropriate channels as we manage this issue,” a hospital spokesperson told My NBC 5. “The safety of our staff and patients is our priority.”

Police still are investigating the incident.

Mr. Parezo is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 5.
