The complaint stems from the Service Employees International Union’s attempts to unionize UPMC personnel. The SEIU has ramped up its organizing efforts in the past year, but the NLRB claims UPMC has “enforced an overly broad and discriminatory rule prohibiting employees from talking about the union” at two of its hospitals, according to the report.
Other NLRB allegations include UPMC prohibiting SEIU solicitation at employees’ homes while they were not working and threatening to terminate employees if they shared co-workers’ contact information with the SEIU, according to the report.
UPMC can answer the complaint before Dec. 26. An administrative law judge will determine the merits of the NLRB complaint in a hearing on Feb. 5, according to the report.
