UK accused of withholding physician compensation details

The Kentucky attorney general’s office has determined that University of Kentucky violated state open record law when it denied a request for minutes of meetings conducted by a committee that determines faculty physician compensation, reports Lexington Herald Leader.

UK officials argue the UK HealthCare Compensation Planning Committee is not a public agency, and claim the meeting details do not exist because minutes are not required to be kept for non-public entities.

The Kentucky attorney general disagreed. Finding that the committee is a public agency subject to state open record laws, the AG determined that UK “failed to meet its statutorily assigned burden of proving it conducted an adequate search for requested meeting minutes,” according to an opinion obtained by Lexington Herald Leader.

UK spokesperson Jay Blanton told the Lexington Herald that the university is reviewing the AG’s determination, but the university maintains that the records do not exist.
