Kenric Griffin was sentenced to 49 months in prison for conspiracy to defraud the United States and to pay and receive healthcare kickbacks, and seven counts of payment and receipt of kickbacks, according to a July 31 news release from the Texas attorney general’s office.
Mr. Griffin was the co-owner of New Horizons Durable Medical Equipment in Frisco, Texas. According to the attorney general, Mr. Griffin obtained patients by paying kickbacks to marketers and disguised illegal payments as marketing costs and outsourced business services.
Mr. Griffin submitted false claims to Medicare and Medicaid for medical equipment that was never provided, not medically necessary, or not authorized by a physician, according to the news release.
