York (Maine) Hospital officially joined Portland-based MaineHealth Oct. 1, according to a post on the hospital’s Facebook page.

The hospital became part of MaineHealth’s Southern region. The organizations previosuly said they plan to maintain inpatient services at the hospital while strengthening primary care and expanding patients’ access to specialty services across MaineHealth’s network.

York Hospital signed a letter of intent in October 2025 to join MaineHealth, citing an increasingly challenging healthcare landscape. The 79-bed hospital said at the time that rising labor costs, escalating pharmaceutical and supply expenses, and increasing payer denials forced it to “review its options regarding its future.” The then-independent hospital also said it did not qualify for federal safety-net programs such as the critical access hospital designation and the 340B drug pricing program.

Patrick Taylor, MD, CEO of York Hospital, said in August that the affiliation will allow the hospital to retain its community focus while gaining support from MaineHealth.

With the latest acquisition, MaineHealth now operates 10 hospitals.
