Texas hospital employee accused of illegally videotaping patient back in court

A former employee of Houston-based Harris Health System was charged with improper photography after illegally videotaping a patient at Houston-based Ben Taub Hospital, an affiliate of Harris Health System, according to Click 2 Houston.

Officials said Todd West admitted to placing a recording device inside a box of latex gloves in a bathroom of the hospital in May. Officers reported that the camera did not record any activity in the bathroom.

According to police documents, officers later found a recording of a nude female patient in her room, dated April 17. Officials spoke with the woman on the recording. She claimed she had not consented to being filmed in the bathroom, according to the article.

Mr. West admitted to police that he placed the recorder in the box of gloves and admitted to recording the 22-year old woman, according to the article.

Mr. West resigned from Harris Health System in May. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 10.
