Houston-based Texas Children’s Hospital has opened a detransition clinic, fulfilling a requirement of its settlement with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the attorney general’s office said Oct. 27.

The clinic provides care to patients who previously received gender-transition treatment, including detransition-related medical care for patients through age 21 and obstetric and gynecologic care for patients older than 21, according to the attorney general’s office, which described it as the first of its kind in the U.S.

Services include endocrinology, surgery, primary care, fertility counseling, psychiatry, psychology, social work and case management, and speech pathology, Texas Children’s said in a statement shared with Becker’s. Care may be delivered in multiple locations depending on patient needs, the hospital said.

Under the settlement, announced in May, Texas Children’s must fully fund the clinic’s services for its first five years so patients receive care at no cost. The hospital also agreed to pay $10 million to resolve the state’s claims that it improperly billed Texas Medicaid for gender-transition care.

“The clinic is operational and we are complying with all requirements in the settlement agreement,” Texas Children’s said.
