The Detroit Police Department said the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has charged two men in an Aug. 22 shooting that left an employee dead at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Mario Green, 53, of Detroit, was charged with first-degree premeditated murder after his ex-wife and hospital employee Latricia Green, 40, also of Detroit was shot and killed, police said in an Aug. 25 Facebook post. Mr. Green was also charged with discharge of a firearm in a building causing death, aggravated stalking, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and four counts of felony firearm.
According to police, at approximately 9:45 a.m. Aug. 22, Mr. Green entered the hospital, armed with a handgun, knowing “that he was prohibited from coming to the hospital because of his past stalking and harassment of Ms. Green at her job.” Police said Mr. Green went to Ms. Green’s office in the basement of the hospital and fired his handgun, fatally wounding his ex-wife before leaving the scene in a car.
Police also said Anthony Lee-Lamont Barnett, 54, of Detroit, was charged in connection with the shooting. Mr. Barnett aided Mr. Green in fleeing from the scene at the hospital, according to police.
Mr. Barnett was arrested Aug. 23 and has been charged with accessory after the fact and lying to a police officer, Detroit police said in a separate Facebook post.
In a statement issued Aug. 22, a hospital spokesperson said it is cooperating with the Detroit Police Department in its investigation and is conducting its own internal investigation.
In its statement, the hospital said, “Police have confirmed this was a targeted act of domestic violence. At this time, all questions regarding what occurred should be directed to the Detroit Police Department.
“The hospital is back open to all patients and visitors.”
In an Aug. 25 statement shared with Becker’s, the hospital clarified that Ms. Green served as a scheduler for its nursing department.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Latricia Green, our beloved Henry Ford Health team member for more than 20 years,” the spokesperson added.
“At Henry Ford Health, we are family, and we are hurting. We recognize that while this attack was targeted, a deep emotional impact is rippling across our workforce and our community.
“We are making confidential counseling services available for any team member who needs them. We also acknowledge the difficult reality of domestic violence and encourage our team members to take advantage of internal resources and members of the community to utilize the national domestic violence hotline by calling 1-800-799-SAFE or texting ‘START’ to 88788.”
