Stanford School of Medicine administrator arrested for allegedly embezzling $15k

A Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine administrator was arrested Nov. 8 for allegedly embezzling $15,000, according to The Palo Alto Daily Post.

Police arrested 30-year-old Anna Maria Martinez, a pediatric anesthesia and pediatric cardiology administrator, at the medical school. Ms. Martinez was responsible for making purchases on behalf of the university with a credit card in her name.

Another employee notified authorities after finding unusual charges on the university credit card. Ms. Martinez admitted she used the credit card for personal purchases, according to the report.

Police Sgt. Brian Philip said Ms. Martinez purchased numerous Visa gift cards over the course of three months.

Ms. Martinez was hired as an administrator in July after serving as an office assistant at Stanford Hospital for more than a year.
