St. Jude Medical Subject of Kickback Investigation

The Department of Justice has notified St. Paul, Minn.-based St. Jude Medical that it is conducting an investigation into the company for potential kickback violations, according to St. Jude’s quarterly U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission report

The DOJ’s investigation is centered on allegations St. Jude paid kickbacks to certain healthcare facilities and a physician group for implanting its cardiac devices, according to the report.

The DOJ requested documents relative to the investigation from St. Jude in April, and the company is currently cooperating with the DOJ, according to the report.
