The South Carolina Senate restored funding for its Certificate of Need program yesterday, defying Gov. Nikki Haley’s veto, according to a Charleston Regional Business Journal report.

Gov. Haley vetoed CON funding in the state’s 2012-2013 budget earlier this month, saying bureaucracy shouldn’t determine a community’s need for a hospital or medical equipment. The program was slated to receive $727,189.

Senators said cutting the funding to administer the program would bring changes and improvements to a standstill. The state is one of 35 with a CON law.
