The U.S. Department of Justice has announced an agreement from radiation oncology practice Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia and its affiliates to pay $3.8 million to settle claims that they violated the False Claims Act.
The settlement resolves allegations that Atlanta-based RCOG overbilled Medicare for certain radiation therapy procedures. The practice also faced allegations of overbilling Medicare for consults and pre-plans ordered by an affiliated physician that were not medically necessary and/or never reviewed by the physician.
The two whistleblowers who filed the complaints are a former RCOG employee and a former RCOG physician. They will receive $646,000 as their share of the settlement.
