Provision in Senate Reform Bill Would Temporarily Fix Low Wage Index for Pennsylvania Hospitals

Pennsylvania’s two Democratic Senators said the Senate health reform bill would extend for one year a temporary fix of the low Medicare wage index for Pennsylvania hospitals, according to a report by the Scranton (Pa.) Times-Tribune.

Sens. Arlen Specter and Bob Casey explained the provision at a news conference at Mercy Hospital in Scranton.

Medicare reimburses hospitals in many states, including parts of Pennsylvania, at lower rates due to the lower wage index.
