Police shoot, injure man during altercation in Ascension hospital

A suspect in an arson investigation is in trouble with the law again after attacking a deputy inside Racine, Wis.-based Ascension All Saints Hospital early Feb. 20, Fox6 reported.

Marcus Cole, 36, was in custody at the hospital when at around 1 a.m. he attacked the Racine County Sheriff's Office deputy guarding him. Allegedly, Mr. Cole obtained the deputy's taser and the deputy shot him, ABC affiliate WISN reported.

Additional law enforcement responded to the hospital and secured Mr. Cole.

Mr. Cole is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is receiving additional medical care while still under guard.

"The Kenosha County Sheriff's Detective Bureau is investigating an incident involving a Racine County Sheriff's Deputy at Ascension All Saints Hospital in Racine at the request of the Racine County Sheriff's Department," a department statement shared with Fox6 said. "No further information is available at this time."

No one else was injured during the incident, according to the report.

An Ascension Wisconsin spokesperson said, "Safety is our top priority. We would like to thank everyone who worked together to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors, associates and providers."

Mr. Cole was already in custody for allegedly setting his apartment on fire Feb. 18 and not warning other residents or calling 911. He was admitted to the hospital for an unrelated medical condition under 24-hour guard.
