Physician charged in $12.7M false billing scheme

A physician with a practice in the District of Columbia was charged in an indictment unsealed Aug. 2 for his alleged role in a $12.7 million healthcare fraud scheme, according to the Department of Justice.

Frederick Gooding, MD, was arrested Aug. 1 and charged with 11 counts of healthcare fraud. Between January 2015 and August 2018, Dr. Gooding allegedly submitted fraudulent claims to Medicare for medical procedures he never provided.

According to the Justice Department, Dr. Gooding falsified medical documents to hide the alleged scheme.
