Pennsylvania hospital, 3 execs tied to criminal probe

The Lawrence County (Pa.) District Attorney's Office has launched an investigation into Ellwood City (Pa.) Medical Center and its owner, according to New Castle News, which cited court documents.

Three things to know:

1. Detectives from the district attorney's office served a search warrant Jan. 18 to the legal record department at Northwest Bank in Wampum, Pa. The DA's office is seeking various records, including daily balance sheets for accounts belonging to Ellwood City Medical Center and its owner, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Americore Health. The DA's office is also seeking information on insufficient funds, returned checks, deposit receipts and wire transfers dating back to July, according to the report.

2. The affidavit of probable cause lists several persons of interest in the investigation, including Americore's CEO, Americore's CFO and Ellwood City Medical Center's CEO.

3. The investigation, which focuses on theft-of-services claims dating back to August, comes as legislators and employees of Ellwood City Medical Center have criticized Americore for failing to meet payroll, according to the report.
