New York man allegedly posed as clinician, gave patients injections at illegal clinic

A medical clinic in Smithtown, N.Y., shut down after its owner was arrested and charged with posing as a medical professional and running the clinic illegally, according to TV station WABC.

Brian Michael Kaufman was arrested last week and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment, identity theft and unauthorized practice of a profession.

The Suffolk County (N.Y.) District Attorney's Office claims Mr. Kaufman ran Men's Health of Smithtown, despite not having a medical license or medical training. He allegedly injected patients with testosterone and instructed clinic employees to perform injections. Prosecutors say Mr. Kaufman used the information of licensed physician assistants who worked at his office to order testosterone, a controlled substance, without their consent or knowledge.

Prosecutors also claim Mr. Kaufman illegally disposed of medical waste. He allegedly directed staff to dispose of used syringes in garbage cans and told them to pour blood into a dumpster or down the sink drain, according to the report.
