New York Budget Includes $2.3B in Healthcare Cuts

New York Governor David Paterson and state legislators agreed to a budget that includes $2.3 billion in healthcare cuts, which will help close a budget deficit of $17.7 billion, according to a news release from Gov. Paterson’s office.

The budget, which goes into effect on Apr. 1, 2010, includes detailed plans for reimbursement reform, including reducing inflated inpatient rates by $225 million and bringing them closer to actual costs, according to the release.

In addition, the budget calls for $306.4 million in hospital cuts by eliminating a planned inflation factor, instituting a 0.35 percent fee on hospital revenues and reallocating graduate medical education funding.

According to the release, an additional $738.5 million will come from health insurance fees.
