Brookdale University Hospital has the most number of open lawsuits compared to other troubled New York City hospitals including Maimonides Medical Center, which has the next highest number of open lawsuits at 80.
According to the report, at least a dozen cases accuse Brookdale University Hospital of negligence that later led to patients’ deaths, including two individuals who suffered fatal infections from pressure ulcers. State Assemblymen Nick Perry (D-East Flatbush) and Karim Camara (D-East Flatbush) have blasted the hospital for the high number of malpractice lawsuits, arguing that lawsuits are evidence of poor management.
A spokesman for Brookdale University Hospital did not comment on the issue, citing pending litigation but defended the hospital’s commitment to high quality care.
