For the fiscal year ending June 30, the hospital reported a loss of $71 million, and UMC provided $204 million in unpaid care, double the amount as it provided in 2005, according to the report. No projections on losses were made for FY 2010.
Among the options the Clark County Commissions are considering are setting up a board responsible for governance of the hospital, leasing the hospital to another entity or selling the hospital to a non-profit entity, according to the report. To sell the public hospital to a for-public company, the board would need a change in Nevada law.
Commissioners will next discuss the options for UMC at their Dec. 16 meeting.
