Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas has been under fire since 2013 when the Sacramento Bee reported the hospital gave patients one-way bus tickets to 47 other states between 2008 and 2013. The newspaper reported the hospital had given as many as 1,500 patients one-way tickets.
San Francisco’s City Attorney Dennis Herrera claims at least two dozen of those patients were sent to his city. San Francisco spent some $500,000 providing medical care to those patients, according to the report. Mr. Herrera filed the lawsuit against Nevada on behalf of San Francisco in September 2013.
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the Nevada Board of Examiners still must approve the $400,000 settlement.
