The bill would threaten plans for a $20 million physician-owned hospital in Kearney, Neb.

According to a spokesman for the physicians, the bill originated from a state Sen. Galen Hadley who formerly served as a board member for Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Good Samaritan opposes the construction of the competing facility, according to the report.

Sen. Hadley said in the report that the bill is intended to resume discussion on certificate of need requirements in the state. Nebraska is one of 14 states without certificate of need requirements for new hospital construction, according to the report.
