Mr. Romney will stay on a private health insurance plan. He has endorsed several Medicare overhaul plans, such as those proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan, in which Medicare beneficiaries could stay in the program or receive fixed premiums to buy a similar private health plan, according to the report.
However, as governor, Mr. Romney overhauled the Massachusetts healthcare system in 2006 under a law many find similar to President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law.
Last year, former CMS Administrator Don Berwick, MD, became the first CMS head to enroll in Medicare while running the program.
