Massachusetts AG Investigating Possible Price Collusion Between BCBS, Partners HealthCare

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley has launched an investigation into whether Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Partners HealthCare colluded to drive up the price of the state’s health insurance, according to a Boston Globe report.

The investigation will look into contract negotiations between the payor and provider over the past nine years to determine whether there was justification for boosts in the payment rate between Blue Cross and Partners physicians and hospitals.
