Maryland Hospital Association Obtains Amendments to State Fraud Legislation

The Maryland Hospital Association has persuaded state lawmakers to add several amendments to a new healthcare fraud bill, according to a report by the Baltimore Business Journal.

The amendments help clarify the definition of fraud, soften the impact of large awards on small providers and helps protect providers against frivolous lawsuits.

The bill still allows whistleblowers to report possible fraud to the state and reap a portion of damages awarded.
