A former cardiologist from St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Md., has lost his medical license due to allegations that he implanted hundreds of unnecessary heart stents in patients, according to a Baltimore Sun report.
The Maryland Board of Physicians revoked the license of Mark G. Midei, MD, writing in an 11-page order that his violations were “repeated and serious,” according to the news report.
The allegations led to an investigation by the U.S. Finance Committee into the Dr. Midei’s relationship with stent makers. It also led to the hospital’s multi-million dollar settlement with the federal government.
