Man sues Florida hospital after his amputated leg found in garbage

John Timiriasieff claims his leg was thrown in the garbage after it was amputated at Coral Gables, Fla.-based Doctors Hospital in October 2014, according to a Reuters report.

Mr. Timiriasieff is suing Doctors Hospital for emotional distress over the alleged improper disposal of his leg. "Rather than properly disposing of the plaintiff's limb as expected and as required by Florida law, Doctor's Hospital threw the plaintiff's amputated limb into the garbage, with tags indicating it belonged to the plaintiff," the lawsuit states, according to Reuters.

Mr. Timiriasieff claims the inappropriate disposal of his leg was brought to his attention when homicide detectives contacted him after a waste management facility discovered the leg and reported it to police.

Doctors Hospital told Reuters it could not discuss the incident in detail because of patient privacy concerns.
