Louisiana Stops Land Acquisition for New Orleans Teaching Hospital

Officials from the state of Louisiana have halted land acquisition activities for a proposed $1.2 billion New Orleans teaching hospital in hopes of forcing an agreement between Louisiana State University and Tulane University, according to a report in The Times-Picayune.

The decision came the day after the LSU board of supervisors rejected a draft of understanding regarding the governance of the new hospital. The draft called for the hospital to be run by a non-profit corporation governed by an independent, 12-member board of directors and was approved by Tulane’s governing board, according to the report.

LSU wanted more representation on the board and fewer non-permanent board members, according to the report. LSU says that it is still committed to the development of the new hospital.

The delay in construction of the teaching hospital will not affect construction of a proposed VA hospital, which is planned to be built next to the new teaching hospital.
