LabMD Trial Delayed During House Oversight Investigation

An administrative law judge has delayed trial in the case the Federal Trade Commission brought against Atlanta-based LabMD concerning a data breach.

In August 2013, the FTC filed an administrative complaint against LabMD alleging the medical testing laboratory failed to adequately secure consumer information and exposed roughly 10,000 consumers' personal information including consumers' names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, insurance provider information and standardized medical treatment codes.

The FTC relied on information obtained from Pittsburgh-based Tiversa, a peer-to-peer security vendor, in bringing its complaint against LabMD, according to a True Blue Tribune report.

The U.S. House Oversight Committee has now launched an investigation into the FTC's reliance on the information obtained from Tiversa. Due to the investigation, the administrative law judge has recessed the trial until June 12.
