Jackson was originally disappointed the state turned down its request for additional trauma centers, while granting provisional licenses for trauma centers at facilities like Hospital Corporation of America’s Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami.
Kendall Regional’s provisional license was granted after an administrative law judge found the state department’s trauma certification rule to be invalid. In January, Jackson Health filed a petition requesting a state hearing regarding the state’s denial of its trauma center applications and suggesting that the provisional licenses to Kendall Regional were invalid.
The state responded on Jan. 31 stating that Jackson Health’s petition was invalid and demanded that Jackson show cause by Feb. 14 as to why the petition shouldn’t be dismissed. Jackson Health decided to voluntarily dismiss it instead, according to the report.
