Increase in Medicare Part B Premiums for 2012 Lower Than Expected

Medicare Part B premiums will increase by $3.50 per month for most beneficiaries, totaling $99.90 per month, and this figure is lower than expected, according to a news release from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Initial estimates predicted that Part B premiums would be $106.60 per month in 2012. CMS Administrator Donald Berwick, MD, said tools within the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act helped to keep the Medicare premium increases lower.
